The baby-boom generation is entering the prime age for heart attacks and strokes, increasing the demand for cardiac and physical rehabilitation. Future medical developments should permit a higher percentage of trauma victims to survive, creating additional demand for rehabilitative care.
Employment of PTs is expected to grow faster than the average for all occupations through 2012. PTs practice in hospitals, clinics, and private offices, or they treat patients in hospital rooms, homes, or schools. Two-thirds of all PTs were either in hospitals or in offices of other health practitioners. Some held private practice. As of 2002, over half of the 137,000 PTs practicing in the US were earning over $57,330.
